Chloe Chua

Young violinist Chloe Chua is one of Southeast Asia's brightest rising stars. She was winning major prizes and touring internationally while still in her mid-teens. Chua has spent two years as an artist-in-residence with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. She was signed to the major PentaTone Classics label and has released several albums, including Butterfly Lovers & Paganini (2024). Chloe Chua (Mandarin: 蔡珂宜; Cài Kēyí) was born on January 7, 2007, in Singapore. Her mother, a music teacher, introduced her to the piano at age two and a half and to the violin at four. She soon began studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts School of Young Talents with Yin Ke; she continued to study with him as of the mid-2020s. Chua's long record of competition wins began with a first prize in the Junior Division of the Thailand International Strings Competition and was followed by first prizes not only in Singapore and China but also in the West, at the Andrea Postacchini Violin Competition in Italy in 2017, and the Junior Division of the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists the following year; at the latter, she shared the top prize with Christian Li. Chua has appeared in East and Southeast Asia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East, performing as a soloist with such groups as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (where she served as artist-in-residence in 2022-2023 and was renewed for a second season in 2023-2024), the Xiamen Philharmonic in China, the Salzburg Chamber Soloists in Austria, the Russian National Youth Orchestra, and the Kammerorchester Basel. She has begun to make an impact on the festival circuit with appearances at the Copenhagen Summer Festival, the Atlanta Festival Academy, and the Singapore Violin Festival. Signed to PentaTone Classics, she released the album Vivaldi: Four Seasons & Locatelli: Harmonic Labyrinth in 2023; the album garnered 1.6 million streams on an online streaming service. She followed that up in 2024 with the album Butterfly Lovers & Paganini, featuring the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto from China and the Paganini Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major, Op. 6; Chua was joined by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
