UTO, a singer/producer duo, first burst onto the scene in 2016, but it wasn't until 2022 that they truly made their mark. Their breakthrough arrived when the esteemed indie music authority, Pitchfork, championed their debut album, Touch the Lock. Recorded in a picturesque Loiret chateau, the album showcased a blend of synthpop styles, captivating audiences. With their electrifying live performances and a knack for crafting infectious melodies, UTO swiftly caught widespread attention. Neysa May Barnett and Emile Larroche have since sustained this winning formula in their latest release, When All You Want to Do Is Be the Fire Part of Fire, an introspective, thought provoking title.
Their album showcases a diverse array of influences, ranging from a more industrial soundscape to trip hop and UK garage. UTO sets the tone with a dynamic interpretation of these influences in “Art&Life”. The duo present a succinct album, featuring nine relatively brief tracks that pack a powerful punch. Memorable highlights include the anthemic "Unshape'' and the hard-hitting single "Zombie".
